The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for Delhi NCR on Wednesday, warning that maximum temperatures will hit 46°C by Friday afternoon. The current spell is the longest unbroken heatwave the capital has seen since June 2024.

A red alert is the IMD's highest warning category. Schools have been told to advance summer break to Thursday. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority opened 200 cooling centres on Wednesday morning.

Authorities advise avoiding outdoor activity between 11am and 4pm. ORS and water-stations are open at all major Metro hubs. For latest updates check the TUI weather desk.
The IMD's next bulletin lands at 6pm.
