Harvard University is set to offer executive education courses in Hyderabad from December 2026, according to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, as the state government pushes to expand international higher-education partnerships in the city. Reddy announced the development on September 17 during a meeting with a 30-member delegation representing UK universities and business schools at the Dr MCR Human Resource Development Institute in Hyderabad.

The delegation included UK House of Lords member Karan Bilimoria, British Council representative Janaka Pushpanathan, Chartered Association of Business Schools CEO Flora Hamilton and representatives of the British Deputy High Commission. The Chief Minister said the initiative forms part of Telangana's effort to position itself as a global knowledge hub, with international universities contributing to professional education, research, faculty development and links with industry. However, prospective applicants should note that detailed information about the Hyderabad programme—including courses, eligibility, fees and application dates - has not yet appeared on Harvard's publicly available Executive Education programme listings.

Harvard University Executive Education in Hyderabad: What Has Been Announced?

The announcement marks another step in discussions between Harvard University and the Telangana government over bringing executive-level learning opportunities to Hyderabad.

According to the Chief Minister, Harvard's executive education courses will become available in the city from December. The New Indian Express reported that Reddy made the announcement while discussing Telangana's international education strategy with the visiting UK delegation. He said the government would support overseas universities interested in establishing academic programmes or a presence in the state.

This is not the first time the Telangana government has discussed a Harvard programme in the city. In February 2026, the state government said Harvard had agreed in principle to conduct international-level executive training locally in Hyderabad through an arrangement involving the Dr MCR Human Resource Development Institute. At that time, the proposed training was specifically discussed in the context of senior government officials. The September announcement suggests those discussions have progressed, although the complete academic structure has not yet been publicly released.

What Is Executive Education?

Executive education usually refers to short, intensive programmes designed for working professionals, senior managers, administrators, entrepreneurs and organisational leaders rather than conventional full-time university degrees. Harvard Kennedy School, for example, currently offers executive programmes covering areas including:

Nor does the announcement mean Harvard University is opening a full university campus in Hyderabad. So far, the announcement specifically concerns executive education.

Who Will Be Able to Apply?

Detailed eligibility criteria have not yet been announced. Harvard Kennedy School's existing executive programmes are generally aimed at professionals and leaders, although requirements differ considerably between courses. The school says many participants in its Executive Education programmes have substantial professional experience, with most admitted applicants having at least 10 years of experience. Some programmes, however, are designed for emerging leaders and have different requirements.

It is not yet clear whether the Hyderabad courses will:

Hyderabad at Centre of Telangana's Global Knowledge Hub Plan

The government is placing Hyderabad at the centre of a wider international education strategy. Reddy told the visiting delegation that Telangana wanted to develop into a global knowledge hub, connecting international universities with local educational institutions, research organisations and businesses. The government has also been promoting an Education Hub within Bharat Future City. During a visit to Oxford University in August, the Chief Minister invited Oxford to explore executive education programmes, specialised research and potentially a dedicated centre in Hyderabad. The Telangana government said at the time that its broader objective was to attract international education, research and innovation partnerships to the state. That strategy extends beyond Harvard.

The Chief Minister has discussed partnerships involving institutions including the University of London, Northeastern University, Virginia Tech, MIT and Purdue. However, the status and structure of each proposed partnership differ, and announcements by the state government should not be read as confirmation that every institution has established or approved a full campus.

Will Students Receive a Harvard Degree?

Nothing announced so far indicates that the Hyderabad initiative will award a conventional Harvard bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree. Executive education is a separate category.

Individual Harvard programmes may provide certificates or evidence of programme completion, depending on their design, but these should not be confused with admission to a Harvard degree programme. Prospective participants should therefore wait for the official course description before making assumptions about certification, academic credit or degree equivalence. This distinction will become particularly important once registrations begin.

More International Education Partnerships Planned

The Harvard announcement came during a broader discussion with representatives of British universities and business schools. Reddy encouraged overseas institutions to consider programmes and partnerships in Telangana, saying the state would support institutions seeking an academic presence. He also invited representatives of the UK education sector to the Invest Telangana Global Summit scheduled for December.

The state has previously approached Oxford University with a similar proposal involving executive learning and research collaboration. Separately, a September 15 Telangana government release said Harvard and other international educational institutions had agreed to begin activities in Hyderabad, although it did not provide detailed programme schedules.

What Happens Next?

The December timeline is now the key date to watch. The next significant development should be publication of the actual programme structure—particularly course titles, eligibility requirements, fees and application procedures. Until then, the confirmed information is narrower than some headlines may suggest. Harvard University is expected, according to the Telangana government's announcement, to begin offering executive education in Hyderabad from December 2026.

It is an important development in the state's effort to make Telangana a global knowledge hub, but it is not presently an announcement of a full Harvard campus or a new Harvard degree programme.
