Gold and silver extended their recovery on Thursday, November 5, 2026, as Indian buyers prepared for Dhanteras on Friday. Gold Rate Today in India was higher in morning exchange trading, but there was no single price that applied to every city or jewellery shop. Silver Prices also advanced, with reported quotations varying substantially by source.

For shoppers, the difference between a futures contract, an industry bullion benchmark and an indicative retail quote matters more than any dramatic headline. Each measures a different part of the market, often at a different time.

Gold Rate Today and Silver Prices: MCX and IBJA Benchmarks

At 9:22 am IST, Angel One recorded MCX December gold futures at ₹1,45,624 per 10 grams, up ₹2,390 or 1.67% from the previous close. December silver futures traded at ₹1,90,128 per kilogram, up ₹2,393 or 1.27%. These were intraday exchange prices for December delivery, not retail counter rates.

The India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) published November 5 morning benchmark rates of ₹1,43,950 per 10 grams for 999-purity gold, ₹1,31,858 for 916-purity gold and ₹1,07,963 for 750-purity gold. Its 999 silver benchmark was ₹1,87,882 per kilogram, before GST and making charges. The 999 gold benchmark was ₹2,328 higher than the November 4 evening quotation of ₹1,41,622. The gold price India today therefore depends on which instrument, purity and timestamp a reader is checking. Neither the MCX price nor the IBJA number is a guaranteed quote from a jeweller.

City-Wise Gold Rates: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and More

Business Today's November 5 report listed the following indicative city rates before additional retail charges:

City24K gold / 10g22K gold / 10g
Delhi₹1,45,580₹1,33,448
Mumbai₹1,45,830₹1,33,678
Bengaluru₹1,45,940₹1,33,778
Kolkata₹1,45,630₹1,33,494
Hyderabad₹1,46,130₹1,33,953
Chennai₹1,46,250₹1,34,063

The 24 carat gold rate quoted for Delhi was ₹1,45,580 per 10 grams, while Chennai's was ₹1,46,250. The 22K gold price for Delhi was ₹1,33,448 and Chennai's was ₹1,34,063, reflecting both purity differences and the source's city assumptions. When comparing the 24 carat gold rate from one report with another, check whether it is per gram or per 10 grams. A 22K gold price cannot be compared directly with a 24K quotation. For jewellery, 18 carat gold contains 75% gold, while 22K contains about 91.6%. An 18 carat gold design may still have a higher final bill if making charges or gemstones are substantial.

Why Silver Quotations Differ by Nearly ₹19,000

Silver Prices in Business Today's city survey were ₹1,91,140 per kilogram. HDFC Sky, citing Goodreturns, published a higher indicative price of ₹2,10,000 per kilogram, equivalent to ₹2,100 per 10 grams. That is a ₹18,860 gap between two published figures, not proof that a buyer can purchase and sell at those levels simultaneously. The IBJA morning benchmark of ₹1,87,882 and the earlier MCX futures quote provide two more reference points. They differ from the city listings because their methodology, contract terms and pricing times are not identical. Even reports describing the same precious metals can use different reference markets.

Someone searching news Gold Rate Today coverage should check each source's rate basis before concluding that one retailer is cheaper. Silver coins and ornaments can also carry fabrication charges and GST.

Global Drivers: Dollar, Yields and Oil

Reuters reported international spot gold at about $4,125 an ounce by 1:22 pm IST and spot silver near $52.63 an ounce. A softer US dollar and falling Treasury yields supported precious metals, while traders looked ahead to US employment data.

India crude oil prices matter indirectly through inflation expectations, import costs and the rupee; they do not independently determine what a local jewellery shop charges. A fall in India crude oil prices therefore cannot guarantee that a domestic bullion quote will fall, especially when global gold and silver are strengthening.

What Buyers Should Check Before Dhanteras

Dhanteras falls on November 6, and the exchange holiday calendar does not list that Friday as a trading holiday. November 5 should not be called the final trading day before the festival. For a practical purchase, request the metal rate, weight, purity, making charges and tax breakup on an itemised bill. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs says that, for ordinary jewellery sales to consumers, 3% GST applies to the total transaction value, including making charges. The separate 5% job-work rate is not an additional retail making-charge tax. For hallmarked gold jewellery, verify the six-character HUID through the BIS Care app.

The gold price India today is an indicative guide rather than a price guarantee. A news Gold Rate Today alert should therefore show when its figures were recorded and whether taxes are excluded. Silver Prices can change before a shopper reaches the counter; the amount on the detailed invoice is what matters.
