Ixigo parent Le Travenues Technology delivered a sharp post-earnings rally on Monday after reporting its highest-ever quarterly profit and strong growth across flights, buses and hotels. The stock jumped nearly 15% intraday to ₹165.99 before giving up part of those gains and ending around ₹158.20, still up about 9.5% from the previous close. The rally came even as the broader Indian market fell more than 1%, making ixigo one of the standout stocks of the session.

But the headline profit does not tell the entire story. A large part of Q2 profit came from the partial sale of the company's Freshbus investment, while operating profitability weakened. That is a major reason Motilal Oswal has continued with a Neutral view despite the strong growth story.

Ixigo Share Rally: What Changed in Q2 FY27?

The biggest positive was the company's overall booking growth. Gross transaction value, or GTV, rose 22% year-on-year to ₹5,304.47 crore, from ₹4,347.50 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Revenue from operations increased 13% to ₹320.96 crore, while contribution margin rose 14% to ₹124.86 crore.

Q2 FY27 metricResultYoY change
Gross transaction value₹5,304.47 crore+22%
Revenue from operations₹320.96 crore+13%
Contribution margin₹124.86 crore+14%
Adjusted EBITDA₹23.58 crore-17%
Profit after tax₹63.42 croreRecord high
Hotels GTV₹111.34 crore+159%

The company said flights and buses also performed strongly, with GTV increasing 37% and 32% respectively. These numbers gave investors evidence that the travel platform can continue expanding transaction volumes even when parts of the wider travel market are under pressure.

Why Did Profit Jump to ₹63.42 Crore?

The company's headline PAT rose to an all-time high of ₹63.42 crore, compared with a loss in the year-ago quarter. However, investors need to distinguish recurring operating earnings from one-time gains. The result was helped by ixigo reducing its stake in electric-bus operator Freshbus. The transaction generated an exceptional gain of around ₹40.66 crore during the quarter.

Without that gain, the increase in reported profit would have been considerably smaller. That does not make the result weak. Revenue, GTV and contribution margin all improved.

But it does mean investors should not automatically assume that ₹63 crore represents the company's new normal quarterly profit run-rate. This distinction is central to understanding why the ixigo share rallied while the brokerage view remained cautious.

Hotel Bookings Become Ixigo’s Fastest-Growing Business

One of the most important developments in the quarter was the emergence of hotels as a separately disclosed business line. Hotel GTV jumped 159% year-on-year to ₹111.34 crore, while hotel revenue increased more than sixfold to about ₹8.1 crore. The company said hotel bookings crossed roughly 4.7 lakh room nights during the quarter, up 295% from a year earlier. More than 86% of bookings came from ixigo's existing customer base, which could be particularly valuable because it reduces the need to acquire every hotel customer from scratch.

The platform now lists more than 70,000 properties in India, including over 12,000 directly contracted hotels across approximately 1,100 towns. For management, hotel bookings are becoming a potential new growth engine. The company has said it will continue investing in hotel supply, products and customer experience while trying to convert its large existing train, bus and flight user base into hotel customers.

Why Motilal Oswal Is Still Neutral

This is where the earnings story becomes more complicated. According to Mint, Motilal Oswal continues to see ixigo as a structural beneficiary of India's growing rail, road and air-travel infrastructure. The brokerage also views the company's brand strength, AI-based services and ability to solve travel-related customer problems positively.

But the brokerage remains concerned about near-term profitability. Ixigo is investing heavily in:

  • Hotel expansion
  • Technology and artificial intelligence
  • Product development
  • Customer acquisition
  • Hotel supply creation

Those investments can improve future growth but also depress margins before they begin producing meaningful profits. That tension is already visible in the Q2 numbers. Despite revenue growing 13%, adjusted EBITDA declined 17% to ₹23.58 crore, from ₹28.48 crore a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA margin fell from roughly 10% to around 7.3%. That margin pressure explains much of Motilal Oswal's restraint.

Ixigo Share Price Rises Despite EBITDA Decline

The ixigo share price reaction shows that investors focused more heavily on growth than on the drop in adjusted operating profit. The stock had closed at ₹144.46 before the results. On Monday, it surged to an intraday high of ₹165.99, a rise of almost 15%, before settling near ₹158.20. Trading volumes also rose sharply, showing unusually strong investor participation.

The ixigo share price move was even more notable because the Nifty 50 fell 1.11% on the same day. That suggests the earnings reaction was company-specific rather than simply part of a rising market. However, the stock remains well below its 52-week high above ₹330, meaning the latest rally follows a much larger correction over the past year.

Flights and Buses Also Delivered Strong Growth

Hotels may have attracted most of the attention, but ixigo's established verticals continued expanding. Flight GTV increased 37% year-on-year. Bus GTV grew 32%. The company said higher airfares and limited availability of confirmed train tickets helped support intercity bus demand. AbhiBus has also continued investing in supply and customer experience.

Ixigo has simultaneously expanded its external distribution.

Its train-booking technology now powers bookings through Uber, alongside an existing bus integration. Food delivery through Zoop and Swiggy has also expanded to more than 290 railway stations. These integrations allow the group to participate in travel transactions even outside its own applications.

AI Is Another Major Investment Area

Management has identified artificial intelligence alongside hotels as one of the company's biggest long-term investment areas. Ixigo already uses AI for travel planning, customer support and booking tools across its applications. The company believes automation can eventually improve service efficiency while helping users make more complex multimodal travel decisions.

However, increased technology spending creates the same short-term trade-off as the hotel business. More investment today may support faster growth later, but it can reduce current operating margins. That is one reason analysts can remain constructive on the company's long-term opportunity without immediately recommending the stock at every valuation.

What About Motilal Oswal’s Target Price?

There is an important point to clarify here. Mint's October 19 article says Motilal Oswal retained its Neutral recommendation after examining the Q2 results. The latest publicly indexed Motilal Oswal research target I could independently identify is ₹215, attached to its August 6 Neutral report. I would therefore avoid describing ₹215 as a newly issued October 19 post-results target unless the latest brokerage note itself is available and explicitly confirms it. The rating is current in the source. The publicly visible ₹215 target predates these Q2 results.

What Investors Should Watch Next

For the ixigo share, future performance may increasingly depend on whether growth in hotels can translate into operating profit rather than simply transaction volume. The fastest-growing indicators are impressive: hotel GTV up 159%, hotel revenue up 528% and room nights up 295%. But investors will also need to track adjusted EBITDA and margins. If hotel and AI investments eventually start producing operating leverage, the same spending that is depressing near-term margins could strengthen earnings later.

If costs remain elevated for longer than expected, revenue growth may not translate quickly enough into recurring profit. That is essentially the balance behind Motilal Oswal's Neutral stance. Le Travenues Technology has shown that it can grow transaction volumes across multiple travel categories. It has also established a rapidly expanding new hotels business. What it has not yet demonstrated is that those investments can produce consistent margin expansion at the same pace. The Q2 rally shows investors are willing to reward the growth story. The next few quarters will show whether the underlying earnings can catch up with it.
