One player fetched ₹1.10 crore. Another made history at just 15. And while one franchise spent big to fill its gaps, another quietly strengthened its squad without chasing expensive signings. The WPL 2027 Auction had plenty to talk about, even without a bidding frenzy for every player.
Held in Kochi on October 28, 2026, the auction saw 25 players sold for a reported ₹6.25 crore across five franchises. Australian all-rounder Sophie Molineux became the most expensive signing, while Delhi Capitals picked young Indian talent Uma Kashvi for ₹10 lakh.
But the biggest question isn't just who went for the highest price. Which teams addressed their weaknesses, who found value buys, and what could these decisions mean for the upcoming season? Here’s our complete breakdown.
The numbers tell an interesting story. Of the 150 players reported to have registered, 72 went under the hammer, but only 25 found teams. Another 78 names were not called, while 47 players who were called remained unsold.

Sophie Molineux topped the list after UP Warriorz secured the Australian all-rounder for ₹1.10 crore, more than double her ₹50 lakh base price. Kiran Navgire followed at ₹75 lakh for Delhi Capitals, while Mumbai Indians bought Shweta Sehrawat for ₹20 lakh.
| Player | Team | Final price |
| Sophie Molineux | UP Warriorz | ₹1.10 crore |
| Kiran Navgire | Delhi Capitals | ₹75 lakh |
| Shweta Sehrawat | Mumbai Indians | ₹20 lakh |
These were the only three players to attract bids above their registered base prices. Molineux's signing stands out because UP Warriorz already had Sophie Ecclestone, making the balance of their overseas bowling options an interesting selection question.

UP Warriorz led the spending with ₹2.60 crore, accounting for approximately 41.6% of the reported total. They entered with eight vacancies to fill and used the auction to add experience, batting power and bowling options.
Mumbai Indians took a different approach, spending ₹70 lakh on six players. Their average spend was around ₹11.7 lakh per signing, making them the most economical buyers by this measure.
| Team | Players bought | Amount spent |
| UP Warriorz | 8 | ₹2.60 crore |
| RCB | 4 | ₹1.10 crore |
| Delhi Capitals | 4 | ₹1.05 crore |
| Gujarat Giants | 3 | ₹80 lakh |
| Mumbai Indians | 6 | ₹70 lakh |
The franchises reportedly left ₹1.90 crore unspent collectively. UP Warriorz retained the largest balance at ₹1.15 crore, followed by Gujarat Giants at ₹45 lakh, Mumbai Indians at ₹20 lakh, and Delhi Capitals and RCB at ₹5 lakh each.
The WPL 2027 Auction Strategy varied across franchises, with each side approaching its vacancies differently.
The biggest takeaway? The WPL teams didn't all need the same things. Some wanted experience, others needed depth, and a few had to fill several vacancies. Their success will depend on how well the new signings fit together on the field.
Not every memorable signing came with a big price tag in this WPL auction. Delhi Capitals picked Uma Kashvi, reportedly aged 15, for ₹10 lakh. Multiple reports described her as the youngest player selected in WPL history.
Gujarat Giants also signed Irish all-rounder Orla Prendergast for ₹30 lakh, reported as the first Irish player picked in the league. These signings add a welcome emerging-talent angle to the Kochi auction, alongside the headline-grabbing purchases.
The WPL 2027 Auction was less about a bidding battle for every player and more about filling the right gaps. UP Warriorz made the biggest financial move, Mumbai Indians prioritised economical depth, and the other franchises added players to address specific needs.
The Kochi auction has set the stage, but the real test begins when these squads take the field. The most expensive signing may grab the headlines today; the smartest team combination could decide the season tomorrow.
