Six medals in one day changed India’s Glasgow campaign.
By the end of Day 5, India had climbed from four medals to 10. Sharmila Dhankar created Para-athletics history, Sarvesh Anil Kushare delivered a national first in high jump, and India’s weightlifters kept adding to the podium count.
The quick answer is simple: India had won two gold, five silver and three bronze medals at the commonwealth games 2026 by the stated cut-off. The tally covers completed events through 27 July and must be refreshed as new finals conclude.
India had 10 medals after Day 5: 2 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze. Six came on 27 July across weightlifting, athletics and Para athletics, according to NDTV’s Day 5 results report.
| Rank | Gold | Silver | Bronze | Total |
| 8 | 2 | 5 | 3 | 10 |
The Commonwealth Games India Medal Tally uses a gold-first ranking system. Countries are placed by gold medals, followed by silver and bronze. India was eighth despite having more total medals than some countries above it.

This commonwealth games 2026 list matches the reported results at the end of Day 5. Readers should check the update time because the 2026 Commonwealth Games are still in progress.
Mirabai Chanu won India’s first gold in Glasgow in the women’s 48kg weightlifting final. She recovered from failed opening attempts to lift 85kg in the snatch and 105kg in the clean and jerk for a 190kg total.
The official Glasgow report said she set three Games records and secured her third consecutive title after Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022.
For a lift-by-lift account, read TUI’s report on Mirabai Chanu’s Glasgow gold.
Weightlifting produced six of India’s first 10 medals.
Rishikanta Singh Chanambam won men’s 60kg silver with a 264kg total. Muthupandi Raja added men’s 65kg silver with 286kg. Gyaneshwari Yadav claimed women’s 53kg silver, while Bindyarani Devi won bronze in the women’s 58kg category.
Valluri Ajaya Babu came within one kilogram of gold in the men’s 79kg event. He totalled 330kg after a 149kg snatch and a 181kg clean and jerk. Malaysia’s Erry Hidayat Muhammad won with 331kg, as recorded in NDTV’s coverage.
These results make weightlifting the clearest strength of India’s CWG 2026 campaign.
Sharmila Dhankar won the women’s shot put F57 title with a best throw of 9.81 metres. She became India’s first Commonwealth Games gold medallist in Para athletics, a milestone also reported by News on AIR.
Her performance had depth. NDTV reported that each of her six throws crossed nine metres. This was not one lucky attempt; she controlled the event.
Sharmila’s gold also showed why Para athletes are central to India’s medal story. Jhandu Kumar and Shilpa K. Shyla joined her among the first 10 medallists.
Shilpa initially appeared to finish fourth in the F57 shot put final with 7.26 metres.
She moved to bronze after a throw by Nigeria’s Eucharia Iyiazi, who had been placed third, was declared a foul. This matters because early live reports may still show a different result. NDTV’s updated coverage includes Shilpa in India’s official tally.
Sarvesh Anil Kushare cleared 2.25 metres to win men’s high-jump silver behind Jamaica’s Romaine Beckford.
According to Times of India’s report, he became the first Indian man to win a Commonwealth Games silver in the event.
The result gave India an athletics medal outside its dominant strength disciplines and became one of Day 5’s biggest breakthroughs.
Jhandu Kumar won bronze in men’s heavyweight Para powerlifting and became India’s first medallist in Glasgow.
The Olympics.com Day 1 report recorded his score at 130.9 points. His result also set the tone for the Para-sport contribution that followed.
Glasgow has a compact programme. Wrestling, badminton, table tennis, hockey, cricket and squash are not included.
Those six sports gave India 30 of its 61 medals at Birmingham 2022. That makes a direct comparison misleading. A smaller total at the 2026 commonwealth games would not automatically mean Indian athletes performed worse; several of India’s strongest events are missing.
.
At the Day 5 cut-off, Sachin Siwach, Ankush Panghal and Sakshi Chaudhary had reached their boxing quarter-finals. Murali Sreeshankar and Lokesh Sathyanathan had also qualified for the men’s long-jump final, according to NDTV.
A quarter-final place does not automatically add a boxing medal. The official total should change only after a podium position is secured.
India’s first 10 medals combine familiar strength with new history.
Mirabai remains the standard-bearer. Sharmila has opened a new chapter for Indian Para athletics. Sarvesh has broken new ground in high jump. Ajaya Babu showed how one kilogram can separate gold from silver.
The commonwealth games 2026 list will keep changing as more finals conclude. After Day 5, India has momentum, several live medal chances and a campaign that finally feels competitive.
