Spider man brand new day release date and quick facts

The film opened in India on July 30, 2026, one day before its July 31 US release. Sony Pictures India announced versions in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, along with premium large-format screenings. Hindustan Times reported the India release details.

The official CBFC record lists a UA 13+ certificate and a certified length of 144 minutes and 52 seconds.

Destin Daniel Cretton directs the movie. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are credited as writers. Sony’s official film page lists Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo in the cast.

Where does Peter Parker’s story begin?

The story takes place four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home. Doctor Strange’s spell has removed Peter Parker from the memories of MJ, Ned and everyone else who knew him.

Peter now lives alone and fights crime full-time. Marvel’s official movie page says the pressure of this life triggers a physical evolution that threatens his existence.

That gives Spider Man Brand New Day its emotional centre. Peter believed that staying away from MJ and Ned would protect them. Instead, the decision has left him without the people who kept him grounded.

What is the story about?

A mysterious force begins controlling people across New York. Mac Gargan, also known as Scorpion, becomes one of its early hosts.

Peter’s investigation draws him towards Bruce Banner, Frank Castle and the Department of Damage Control. It eventually leads to a young telepath whose powers make her appear to be the main threat.

The released film confirms that Sadie Sink plays Jean Elaine Grey, a younger version of Jean Grey. Her arrival is a major step for the MCU’s mutant storyline.

However, the movie presents Jean as a traumatised young woman rather than a straightforward supervillain. Her actions grow from grief and the discovery that a powerful government body views people like her as weapons.

Who is in the cast?

Zendaya returns as MJ, while Jacob Batalon reprises Ned Leeds. Neither character remembers Peter at the beginning.

Mark Ruffalo appears as Bruce Banner and Hulk. Jon Bernthal plays Frank Castle, better known as Punisher. Michael Mando returns as Scorpion, while Tramell Tillman plays Damage Control chief Bill Metzger.

Bruce helps Peter understand his physical changes. Frank becomes an uneasy ally, but his willingness to kill clashes with Peter’s moral code.

Florence Pugh also makes a brief appearance as Yelena Belova, according to the Financial Times review.

Who is the real villain?

Jean Grey appears dangerous for much of the story. She can enter minds, control bodies and form psychic links.

But Bill Metzger is the film’s main human antagonist.

A detailed GamesRadar ending explainer says Metzger’s Damage Control operation kidnapped Jean’s sister, Sara Grey, and subjected her to experiments designed to record and weaponise her psychic “jumps”. Sara died during those tests.

Metzger then misled Peter and encouraged him to see Jean as the danger. Jean remains responsible for the harm she causes, but Damage Control created the crisis it claims to be stopping.

What is V-Max?

Jean spends much of the movie searching for “V-Max”, believing it will lead her to Sara.

Inside the Damage Control testing room, she sees “Ventmax” written above an air vent. Several faded letters make it appear as “V-Max”.

Sara sent that final image to Jean through their psychic link before she died. Jean was not searching for a weapon. She was following her sister’s last message.

What happens to Peter Parker’s powers?

Peter suffers headaches and disturbing physical changes. His strength and senses become harder to control, so he uses an inhibitor to suppress the evolution.

During the final confrontation, Jean asks whether he is Peter Parker or Spider-Man. Peter answers that he is both.

That answer marks the film’s turning point. Peter removes the inhibitor, controls his enhanced abilities and refuses to kill his attackers.

The danger was never only his growing strength. It was his belief that Peter Parker had to disappear for Spider-Man to survive.

What happens between Peter and MJ?

MJ discovers the letter Peter wrote after No Way Home and demands the truth.

Peter explains their history, Doctor Strange’s spell and Aunt May’s death. He tells her that he never stopped loving her.

MJ does not recover her memories. She tells Peter that she does not know him and cannot return feelings based on a life she cannot remember.

The scene avoids an easy magical solution. Peter can finally be honest, but he cannot demand that MJ become the person she was before the spell.

Reviews from the Financial Times and The Guardian highlighted the emotional weight of the lead performances.

How does Spider-Man: Brand New Day end?

Peter learns that Metzger lied and goes to rescue Jean. When she discovers the truth about Sara, her grief triggers a massive psychic attack.

Peter stops Jean from killing Metzger and reaches her through his own experience of loss. Frank then fires at Jean, but Peter moves into the bullet’s path and suffers a near-fatal injury.

Jean uses her powers to help Peter wake from a coma. After recovering, he visits Aunt May’s grave and decides that he will no longer face everything alone.

Jean leaves New York on a bus travelling upstate, while Metzger disappears during the chaos.

The film does not confirm that Jean is heading towards Xavier’s school. That remains a theory rather than an established MCU development.

Does Ned remember Peter?

Peter meets Ned at a bodega and introduces himself. Without thinking, the two perform the friendship handshake they shared before the spell.

Ned then appears to recognise Peter and says his name.

The film does not explain whether Ned’s memories have returned or whether the handshake survives as muscle memory. It leaves the question open instead of undoing the ending of No Way Home in one scene.

Is there a post-credit scene?

Yes. The movie contains one scene at the end of the credits.

Ned’s Spider-Tracker first loses Peter’s location and then finds him in deep space. A final title card confirms that the hero will return.

GamesRadar’s post-credit explanation suggests that the scene could lead into a future cosmic MCU story.

However, connections to Avengers: Secret Wars, Battleworld or a symbiote storyline remain unconfirmed theories.

What are critics saying?

Early reviews praised the more mature Peter Parker and the emotional work between the lead actors. Critics also pointed to the long runtime, crowded cast and heavy use of CGI.

The Guardian described the movie as a reset built around Peter’s isolation and unusual physical changes. The Financial Times praised the chemistry between the leads but argued that the film often returns to familiar Marvel habits.

The mixed response matters because the film contains several major MCU developments. Yet its strongest moments remain personal: Peter facing MJ, Jean confronting her grief and Ned remembering something his mind was supposed to lose.

Why this new chapter matters

Spider-Man: Brand New Day expands the MCU’s mutant story, keeps Damage Control active as a threat and pushes Peter towards a future beyond Earth.

Yet its most important change is personal.

Spider Man Brand New Day begins with Peter believing that isolation keeps other people safe. It ends with him accepting that responsibility does not require loneliness.

The world may no longer remember Peter Parker, but he cannot survive by forgetting himself.
