₹140.75 crore in one day. ₹101.10 crore net from India. And ₹55 crore from the Hindi version alone. Yash’s Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has opened with numbers that demand attention.

Released on August 26, the film recorded ₹101.10 crore net and ₹120.75 crore gross in India, taking its worldwide gross to ₹140.75 crore on Day 1, according to figures from trade tracker Sacnilk cited by NDTV and The Indian Express. 

The opening is impressive, but the real story lies beneath the headline. The Toxic box office collection shows a strong pan-India response, with the Hindi market emerging as its biggest contributor. Yet, Yash has not surpassed the opening benchmark set by KGF Chapter 2.

• Hindi: ₹55 crore
• Kannada: ₹23.30 crore
• Telugu: ₹16 crore
• Tamil: ₹5.50 crore

The five versions together generated the film’s ₹101.10 crore India-net total. 

The Hindi version alone contributed more than half of the India-net opening. That is a significant marker of Yash’s pan-India reach.

Interestingly, the Kannada version recorded stronger occupancy despite earning less in absolute terms. The Indian Express reported around 89% occupancy for the Kannada version, compared with roughly 53% for Hindi. 

The difference comes down largely to the number of shows. Hindi had a much wider theatrical footprint.

Toxic vs KGF Chapter 2: Has Yash Broken His Record?

No. And this is where the ₹140.75 crore opening needs some context.

KGF Chapter 2 remains ahead of Toxic on Day 1. NDTV reports that KGF 2 opened at around ₹116 crore net in India, compared with ₹101.10 crore for the new release. 

Worldwide estimates for KGF Chapter 2 vary across trade reports, but all of the cited comparisons place it ahead of Toxic on Day 1. Hindustan Times, for example, reported a ₹164 crore worldwide opening for KGF Chapter 2. 

So, Toxic is not Yash’s biggest opener. But it has still delivered a remarkable start.

The journey is worth remembering. When KGF arrived in 2018, Yash was primarily known to Kannada audiences. The franchise changed that. KGF Chapter 2 took his popularity nationwide, and the Hindi performance of Toxic shows that reach has continued.

Toxic Surpasses Jawan, Animal and Pathaan

The film’s ₹140.75 crore worldwide opening also puts it ahead of several major Indian releases based on the Day 1 worldwide figures cited by Hindustan Times.

However, there is another important detail. Toxic has not delivered the biggest worldwide opening of 2026. Hindustan Times reports Dhurandhar 2 at ₹205 crore worldwide on Day 1.

According to The Indian Express, Toxic had crossed ₹73.43 crore in advance bookings, with more than 18.48 lakh tickets sold before release. 

That figure includes block bookings, so it should not be read as pure individual ticket sales.

Still, it shows the scale of anticipation surrounding the film.

The combination of Yash’s post-KGF popularity, a wide theatrical release and strong interest across language markets gave the film a substantial base to work with on Day 1.

Mixed Reviews Could Be the Bigger Story Now

A huge opening does not automatically guarantee a long run.

The Toxic movie has received mixed reviews, with criticism focusing on elements such as pacing, screenplay, violence and extended action sequences. Hindustan Times also noted that the largely negative critical response could affect word of mouth in the coming days. 

That makes the next few days crucial.

Day 1 reflects anticipation, advance bookings and star power. The following days reveal audience acceptance.

If collections remain steady and grow over the weekend, the film could turn its spectacular opening into a substantial theatrical run. A sharp drop, however, would suggest that the initial numbers were driven more by anticipation than word of mouth.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film stars Yash alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth.

The film was written and shot in Kannada and English, with dubbed versions released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. It is produced by Venkat K. Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations.
