Rhea Chakraborty made an emotional exit from The Traitors Season 2 after almost every remaining contestant voted against her despite her secretly playing the game as an Innocent.

The actor was eliminated in episode eight during the Circle of Shaq after receiving eight votes out of nine, according to The Indian Express. When it was time to reveal her identity, Rhea confirmed that she had never been a Traitor.

Her exit immediately became about more than the reality show. Rhea connected the suspicion she faced inside the game with the years of public scrutiny that followed the 2020 death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, describing the experience as “deja vu.” For a competition built entirely around distrust, deception and convincing others of your innocence, the moment carried an unusually personal meaning for her.

Rhea was voted out during the Circle of Shaq, where contestants decide whom they suspect of secretly being a Traitor. She had actually been playing as an Innocent. Indian Express reports that eight of the nine contestants voted for her, making the verdict close to unanimous. Before revealing her true role, Rhea apologised to contestants she had herself suspected during earlier rounds and said she hoped they could remain friends outside the show.

She then connected the experience to her own past. Her closing line included:

“I am innocent, always have been and always will be.”

She also described the situation as feeling like “deja vu.” That reference was difficult to miss given what Rhea had already discussed during the season.

Why Rhea Said Being Suspected Felt Familiar

Earlier in The Traitors Season 2, host Karan Johar asked Rhea whether she would rather play as an Innocent or a Traitor. She chose Innocent. Rhea said she had spent years living under suspicion and no longer wanted that feeling, telling Karan that people had finally realised she was innocent after what she described as receiving a “clean chit.” She later explained her reasoning even more directly.

When fellow contestant Shweta Tiwari asked why she was so reluctant to become a Traitor, Rhea said her real-life experiences made the role uncomfortable for her. She described herself as having been heavily trolled and said the world had already seen her as a “traitor” outside the reality show. That made her eventual elimination unusually ironic: she entered wanting to prove she could simply be an Innocent, only to be voted out because most contestants became convinced she was hiding something.

The ‘Clean Chit’ Needs Some Legal Context

Rhea's statement about receiving a clean chit requires an important factual clarification. The Central Bureau of Investigation filed its closure report in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case in March 2025, not in 2026. The agency concluded that there was no evidence of foul play in Rajput's death and found no material showing that Rhea or members of her family had illegally confined, threatened or abetted him to die by suicide. The CBI also found no evidence supporting allegations that she had misappropriated his money or property.

Media reports widely described that as an effective “clean chit” for Rhea in the allegations arising from Rajput's death.

However, it is more accurate to say the CBI filed a closure report clearing her of those allegations. The report went before the courts, and Rajput's family subsequently said it intended to challenge the CBI's findings. So the phrase should not be used as though every legal proceeding linked to the wider 2020 controversy disappeared at once.

The Drug Case Was a Separate Proceeding

The drug case involving Rhea came from a separate investigation by the Narcotics Control Bureau. The NCB arrested her on September 8, 2020 over allegations relating to procurement and payment for drugs connected with Rajput. She spent nearly a month in custody before the Bombay High Court granted her bail on October 7. While granting bail, the High Court rejected the NCB's attempt to treat her as part of a drug-trafficking chain.

The court said there were reasonable grounds for believing she was not guilty of the serious Section 27A offence or an offence involving commercial quantities, and observed that she was not part of a chain of drug dealers. But that was a bail order, not a final acquittal in the entire NCB case. The distinction still matters in 2026. In April this year, a special NDPS court ordered some bank accounts belonging to Rhea and members of her family to be defrozen because the NCB had not complied with mandatory procedural requirements under the NDPS Act. The order itself arose within the continuing Special NDPS Case. So an article should not merge the CBI death investigation and the NCB drug proceeding into one “clean chit.”

Mallika Sherawat’s ‘Jail’ Remark Brought Her Past Into the Game

Rhea's legal history had already surfaced directly during The Traitors India Season 2. After Munawar Faruqui's elimination, Rhea became involved in an exchange with Mallika Sherawat while defending Munawar. According to Munawar, Mallika then brought up Rhea's time in jail. Speaking to India Today after leaving the show, Munawar called the remark “completely uncalled for.” That episode showed how difficult it was for Rhea's real-life history to remain separate from the reality-game format. Other contestants were supposed to judge whether she could secretly deceive them inside the game. But references to her actual past occasionally entered those arguments too.

Rhea Had Already Said ‘The World Sees Me as a Traitor’

In another episode, Rhea openly discussed how the show's basic vocabulary affected her. The entire format divides players into two identities: Innocents and Traitors. Rhea said that becoming a Traitor felt particularly uncomfortable because of what she had experienced outside the programme. She described herself as one of the country's most heavily trolled public figures and said people had already seen her as a traitor in real life. That comment became more significant after her episode-eight elimination. For another contestant, being incorrectly identified as a Traitor is simply a tactical defeat. For Rhea, she made clear that the language itself reminded her of a much more difficult period in her life.

Why Rhea Chakraborty’s Exit Feels Different

The Traitors Season 2 is supposed to make people suspicious. That is the game. Innocents have incomplete information. Traitors deliberately mislead them. Wrong accusations are inevitable. So Rhea's elimination does not itself show that contestants treated her unfairly. They simply made the wrong strategic call. What gave the moment additional weight was Rhea's own reaction to it. Her life after Sushant Singh Rajput's death involved investigations, arrest in a separate drug case, intense television coverage and years of public allegations.

The CBI later filed a closure report finding no evidence that she was responsible for Rajput's death or had committed the financial wrongdoing alleged against her.

Inside The Traitors, none of that determined whether she was an Innocent. But emotionally, Rhea clearly saw a connection. She entered a programme built on suspicion saying she wanted, this time, to be the innocent person. Eight votes later, she left it having told everyone exactly that.
